*** Recent developments on the ground***
The FSA destroyed one of the regime’s tanks on the south eastern front which has been the scene of bloody battles and hit—and-run operations for the past seven days. The whole crew of the T72 were killed in the operation. The city of was the target of heavy shelling fired from Fourth Division Barracks, Regiment 153 and checkpoints surrounding the city. The mortar, heavy artillery and tank shelling targeted the eastern and southern areas of the city. Tanks located on Jedaidat Sahnaya Road targeted the western area. The shelling resulted in more destruction in the city and caused several injuries among besieged civilians. The shelling is still ongoing at the moment of writing this round-up.
Regime forces have been reinforced by bringing in more tanks and troops from Al-Mazzeh Airport over the past few days.
***Humanitarian and living conditions***
The besieged people of Daraya have been suffering for over a year amidst a total lack of humanitarian, medical and food supplies. Over 6,000 civilians including 600 children and 50 new born babies are living inside the siege. The people have been surviving on whatever vegetables or herbs they can get. Unfortunately, large proportions of crops have been damaged by the current wave of frost. As a result, the siege is becoming ever more life-threatening due to hunger, cold and daily shelling including explosive barrels.
