Artillery shelling targets the cities of #Daraya and #Muaddamiya; helicopter overflights; tight siege continues causing acute shortages in basic necessities
*** Recent developments on the ground***
Cautious calm prevailed in the city of Daraya today and was interrupted by heavy artillery shelling which targeted the western area. Gunfire shots were heard on several fronts as light-weapon skirmishes and sniper operations went on.
The city of Muaddamiya was also shelled sporadically by heavy artillery. The shelling targeted several residential neighbourhoods. Clashes between regime and FSA forces also broke out along the northern front.
Meanwhile helicopters conducted overflights over both cities.
*** Humanitarian situation***
After 10 months of tight siege on the two neighbouring cities of Daraya and Muaddamiya, the need is ever more urgent for essential supplies like food, medicine and even potable water. All power, communications and internet services have also been cut off.
The displaced people from both cities continue to suffer in the western suburbs of Damascus due to continual shelling, security forces harassment, and arrest campaigns launched by regime forces. Inside Damascus, security forces are cracking down on most displaced people especially those who come from Daraya or Muaddamiya.
