Early this morning, the city of Daraya was shelled by mortar and heavy artillery from the Fourth Division Mountains, and the checkpoints and barracks surrounding the city. The southern front was shelled by Shilka guns located on a nearby checkpoint.
This morning, a military convoy made up of military vehicles, tanks and troop carriers entered the city via the eastern entrance while helicopters conducted several overflights over Daraya. Later, the convoy withdrew to its earlier locations outside the city on the eastern entrance checkpoint and Al-Mazzeh Military Airport. The city’s combat fronts witnessed relative calm interrupted by light-weapon skirmishes and mutual sniper operations.

Over the past nine months the city of Darya has been surrounded by tens of regime checkpoints forming a tight siege and resulting in dire shortage in all the necessities of life amid a complete blackout of electricity and communications. Meanwhile, the displaced people of Daraya are suffering horrific living conditions where food supplies and safe homes are scarce and prices are soaring.
