***Headlines***
Reinforcements sent to the city; clashes on most fronts; heavy-artillery shelling; dreadful humanitarian and living conditions
*** Recent developments on the ground***
Daraya’s city centre was targeted today using heavy artillery and mortar bombs in the aftermath of extremely violent fighting around Liberty Square which caused two deaths and a number of injuries. The rest of the city’s combat fronts witnessed intermittent clashes and infiltration attempts by Assad’s forces which were thwarted by the FSA. Earlier in the day, a military convoy including tanks and armoured vehicles headed towards the city while helicopters flew over the city at low altitudes.
***Humanitarian situation***
The city is going through impossibly difficult humanitarian and living conditions amid a tight siege that has been in place since the start of the current campaign. The city is completely without potable water, electricity, flour and is running extremely low on medical supplies.
The displaced people of Daraya are also suffering horrific living conditions in the areas where they live amid high prices and severe shortages in supplies.
