Intermittent clashes on western and northern fronts; artillery and mortar shelling causes more destruction; siege continues, supplies extremely low
*** Recent developments on the ground***
Intermittent clashes between FSA fighters and regime forces broke out on Western and northern fronts; mutual sniper operations and intermittent clashes took place on several fronts as a military convoy including tanks and armoured vehicles left Al Mazzeh Military Airport and entered the city this morning. Meanwhile, barracks and military checkpoints surrounding Daraya launched a barrage of mortar and artillery shelling against the whole city.
***Humanitarian situation***
The city of Daraya has been under a tight siege for over 9 consecutive months which left the city completely cut off from the outside world. The situation is only getting worse as food and fuel supplies are not allowed in while electricity and water are also cut off. Flour has also run out which made the situation even more disastrous for the remaining residents of Daraya. Meanwhile, the medical situation is deteriorating as the unrelenting daily shelling against the city causes daily casualties.
Over 300,000 people had to escape the city to safer areas due to shelling and the barbaric campaign against the city. These displaced people are living in horrible conditions due to poverty, lack of food and soaring market prices.
