Fierce clashes on western front; FSA hits back at Assad forces’ attempt to sneak into city; sporadic artillery shelling causes fires and a number of injuries; after 9 months of siege, flour runs out, supplies extremely low
*** Recent developments on the ground***
FSA hits back at regime forces’ attempt to sneak into the city through several fronts; fierce clashes broke out in the western area: around Alqitta Factory, Almaamil Road and the vicinity of Liberty Square, inflicting a number of injuries on regime forces. Regime forces retaliated with heavy artillery shelling of different parts of the city causing several injuries and fires. Cloud of smoke hung over the western area as fire broke out in a farm there. Meanwhile, mutual sniper operations as well as RBG and B10 shelling were recorded on most fronts.
***Humanitarian situation***
The 9-month long siege has been causing acute shortages in medical and food supplies as well as a complete blackout of electricity, water and communications.
Thousands of civilians including women and children are still trapped inside the city in dire need for the basic life necessities. The city has been without bread for over two months due to the absence of flour.
Hundreds of wounded persons including young children, under 1 year old, are in extreme need for medicine and medical care. Field hospitals are simply not capable to meet all these needs amid these tragic circumstances.
