***Headlines***
Intermittent clashes on several fronts; sporadic artillery shelling causes a number of injuries; after 9 months of siege, flour runs out and all supplies are extremely low
*** Recent developments on the ground***
The city was shelled using rockets and artillery at midnight. The shelling continued sporadically throughout the day and targeted several areas. The most ferocious shelling targeted the southern-eastern area where FSA fighters clashed with regime fighters. The regime intentionally shelled the alleged shrine of Sukaina in the city centre. Shelling also caused many fires to start in homes and led to clouds of smoke. Mutual sniper operations were recorded along several fronts while tanks based outside the city shelled the western area and caused several injuries.
***Humanitarian situation***
The 9-month long siege has been causing acute shortages in medical and food supplies as well as a complete blackout of electricity, water and communications.
Thousands of civilians including women and children are still trapped inside the city in dire need for the basic life necessities. The city has been without bread for over two months due to the absence of flour.
Hundreds of wounded persons including young children, under 1 year old, are in extreme need for medicine and medical care. Field hospitals are simply not capable to meet all these needs amid these tragic circumstances.
