***Headlines***
Fierce clashes on the eastern front; helicopter raids; artillery and rocket shelling causes a number of injuries; 8-month-long siege causes dire shortages in all supplies
*** Recent developments on the ground***
Violent fighting was recorded today along the eastern front of the city where FSA fighters conducted special operation to clear some buildings along Almaamil Road from regime forces. The latter retaliated by fiercely shelling the area resulting in a number of injuries. Cloud of smoke were seen billowing from the area as many homes were set alight by the shelling.
Regime forces continued sending tanks and military vehicles towards the eastern entrance to the city in order to supply its troops with food and ammunition. Some tanks and armoured vehicles attempted to advance on liberty square as they shelled residential buildings and clashed with the FSA. Meanwhile, cautious calm prevailed along the remaining fronts and was only interrupted by mutual sniper operations and B10 and RPG bombing.
***Humanitarian situation***
The 8-month long siege has been causing acute shortages in medical and food supplies as well as a complete blackout of electricity, water and communications.
Thousands of civilians including women and children are still trapped inside the city in dire need for the basic life necessities. The city has been without bread for over two months due to the absence of flour.
Hundreds of wounded persons including young children, under 1 year old, are in extreme need for medicine and medical care. Field hospitals are simply not capable to meet all these needs amid these tragic circumstances.
