New fallen hero: martyr Hajj Mazhar Abu Abed; Rebels hold on to their ground; artillery shelling on most areas causes even more destruction; siege continues causing acute shortage in all supplies
*** Recent developments on the ground***
Hajj Mazhar Abu Abed joined today Daraya’s list of fallen heroes. The hero died due to Assad’s indiscriminate shelling of the city.
The rebels proved their steadfastness for another day after 8 months of assault. The city was shelled from tanks based near Jedaidat Sahnaya as well as from the Fourth Division. The city also witnessed sporadic fighting between the FSA and regime militias along the western front.
This morning, a military convoy left Al-Mazzeh Airport heading towards the city of #Daraya. The convoy consisted of 4 tanks, 4 BMP vehicles, 3 armoured vehicles, 12 trucks fitted with DShk guns, in addition to a large number of troop-carrying buses and pickup trucks.
The humanitarian situation is beyond belief. The twin cities of Daraya and Muaddamiya have been under tight siege for more than 8 months. The remaining inhabitants are suffering acute shortages in food and medical supplies amid a total black out of electricity, water and communications.
The suffering of the displaced Darayans is increasing on a daily basis, especially those in neighbouring towns. More than 200,000 displaced people face unimaginable difficulties under siege and shelling.
