FSA clears several buildings on the eastern front and regime retaliates with violent rocket and artillery shelling and further build-up of forces; a number of injured victims; siege continues causing acute shortage in all food and medical supplies
*** Recent developments on the ground***
FSA fighters are still combing the cleared buildings in eastern front and Almaamil Road. Regime forces continued to dispatch new military vehicles and tanks from Al-Mazzeh Airport in an attempt to advance inside the city. In the early morning, clashes in Almaamil Road continued without any notable advance of regime forces. Intermittent clashes broke out in the vicinity of the alleged Sukaina Shrine and around liberty square. The attacks were repelled by FSA fighters. Meanwhile, sniper operations continued in most fronts, helicopters conducted sorties over the city, and several areas witnessed sporadic artillery shelling causing a number of injuries and more damage and destruction to the city’s neighbourhoods and infrastructure.
*** Humanitarian situation***
Daraya has been living for over eight months under tight siege stopping all necessities from reaching the city. Most food and medical supplies are running out while electricity, communications, and fuel are also completely cut off from the city.
The suffering of the displaced Darayans is increasing on a daily basis, especially those in neighbouring towns. More than 200,000 displaced people face unimaginable difficulties under siege and shelling.
