*** Recent developments on the ground***
5 May 2013 is Day 174 of the barbaric Assadist campaign against Daraya.
Early in the morning, regime forces resumed their attempts to storm and control the city of Daraya by sending military reinforcements including 5 tanks, 4 armoured vehicles; 4 BMP vehicles, a number of DShK vehicles, and a number of troop-carriers. Clashes broke out between the incoming forces and the FSA who damaged a mine-clearing tank through their Special Operations Unit. Ahfad Salaheddine Battalion damaged another tank on the western front. Clashes and mutual sniper operations continued on all fronts.
Rocket and artillery shelling continued throughout the day. The shelling came primarily from Regiment 100 and the tanks surrounding the city.
In the evening the reinforcements retreated from the city towards Al-Mazzeh Airport. As the day came to a close, Daraya survived another day in the face of Assad’s forces despite the tight siege and the total lack of the necessities of life.
