|| Situation in the City and Countryside ||
¤ Hama City:
For the second consecutive day, security forces and shabiha from the Baath Party HQ raided al-Shaiikh Anbar and Wadi al-Hawarneh. They searched many houses and stole a Hyundai vehicle before withdrawing and returning to their base. Eleven men who were arrested in Wadi al-Hawarneh yesterday were freed as well. Shabiha were heavily deployed in Bab al-Balad and al-Marabet. There was tension in al-Jesr Lane and Souq al-Shajara, and regime forces deployed on March 15 Road. There are reports that two men were arrested amid gunfire in the area. Regime forces raided houses in the neighborhood and broke into empty and abandoned shops. At one point, forces raided the College of the Arts. They also raided Abdul Naser Abe Ramz School in al-Bernawi neighborhood, and threatened to arrest and beat students if they found anti-regime graffiti on the walls.
In al-Eleileyat, two members of al-maid brigade assassinated a shabiha at the Harash checkpoint while he was roaming around the neighborhood near al-Nour Mosque. Regime forces then deployed in the neighborhood and arbitrarily opened fire. After a shabih was killed at the al-Harash checkpoint, regime forces raided al-Eleileyat and arbitrarily opened fire toward houses. They broke car glass, and broke into and destroyed three shops and arrested seven residents.
This afternoon, a number of Red Crescent branches were raided by regime forces. These include the March 15 Street branch above the military center, and the Nazlet al-Jezdan branch. The personal bags of employees and civilians at these branches were searched as well.
In the evening:
Clashes and intense gunfire were reported in Tareeq Halab neighborhood, and one civilian was wounded as a result of regime gunfire. Gunfire was also reported from the youth residence building.
Yesterday, on April 23, shabiha raided the girl's high school named Ibrahim Halloum School. They interrogated with students in attempt to learn who was scrawling anti-regime graffiti on the walls. They also searched the girls' backpacks, and threatened to arrest them all if the graffiti continues. They also asked the girls to spy on each other, and flirted with them and used inappropriate language.
¤ Hama Countryside:
Western Hama Countryside - al-Asharneh:
Regime forces stormed the village in tanks and heavy machinery amid intense and arbitrary gunfire. This happened after the explosion of a microbus carrying shabiha on al-Hourat Road.
al-Ghab Plain: al-Hawwash:
Aerial shelling of al-Hawwash village by the regime's Air Force resulted in the injury of a number of people and the destruction of some houses.
Eastern Hama Countryside:
Three houses in Qasr Abu Samra village were completely destroyed as a result of shelling today. The village is adjacent to the Alawite village of al-Zoghba.
Two artillery shells struck Douma village and destroyed two houses. A number of houses in Arafeh village wet also destroyed, and one resident sustained a shrapnel injury.
Shelling from regime bases continues into the evening, amid clashes between regime and opposition forces.
A microbus was blown up on al-Zoghba al-Tlaiseyeh Road after the FSA attacked it with RPG shells.
Tayebt al-Esm:
MiG fighter jets dropped cluster bombs and phosphoric bombs on the village, leaving a number of people wounded and destroying houses.
Krah Village:
A family of seven people was killed this afternoon, as they were fleeing from Krah village amid shelling by regime forces. We have received the name of the father; Ahmed al-Hussain.
Soran:
Starting in the early morning, shells were being fired from al-Makateb checkpoint toward the eastern suburbs at a rate of one shell per five minutes. Shelling continues until now, and many residents of Khafseen, Karah, Tayebt al-Esm, Kawkab, Douma and al-Hazm have fled to Soran. These villages are now nearly vacant.
Kernaz:
Intense MiG shelling left one man dead and several of his family members wounded after their house was struck.
