*** Recent developments on the ground***
Today is the second anniversary of Daraya’s first martyrs. On Good Friday 22/04/2011 the first three heroes from Daraya who died for Syria’s freedom and dignity were: Walid Kholani, Ammar Mahmoud, Al-Mutaz Billah Al-Shaar. Since then, Daraya has never stopped sacrificing her children and she still stands with dignity in the face of Assad’s aggression.
The National Council has launched an appeal for the rescue and relief of the towns in Western Ghota (Damascus Countryside) in the face of the barbaric campaign against them.
In a statement about the situation, the National Council talked about the rabid attacks, shelling and raids carried out against these towns. The towns of Daraya, Jedaidat Alfadl and Muaddamiya have been subjected to fierce campaigns and massacres, especially the recent appalling massacre in Jedaidat Alfadl, the statement said. The National Council also drew attention to the dire humanitarian situation and siege in the Western Ghota. On the ground, today witnessed an escalation in artillery and rocket shelling on all neighbourhoods especially the hot fronts. In addition, fierce clashes broke out between FSA fighters and regime forces, especially on the western and southern fronts. The number of military vehicles taking part in the storming attempts along these fronts has been estimated to be over 40 including tans, BMP vehicles, DShK vehicles, and troop-carriers.
*** Humanitarian situation***
We would like to draw attention to the suffering of the displaced Darayans especially nowadays during the shelling of the city of Jedaidat Artouz, Al-Fadl Street where a large number of them live. News reports have revealed that mass executions have been committed against the civilians there including people from Daraya.
More than 200,000 displaced people live in neighbouring towns and face unimaginable difficulties under siege and shelling. People remaining inside Daraya are facing a far greater threat under siege and total absence of the basic necessities of life.
*** Medical Centre Report***
The medical team continues to provide all possible help to rescue and treat injured victims whether civilians or FSA fighters despite the extreme shortage in medical staff, equipment and material.
The field hospital received today a number of injured victims. The victims were rescued and given the necessary treatment and medication.
