|| Situation in the City and Countryside ||
¤ Hama City:
As the regime and its shabiha celebrate Independence Day today, helicopters and warplanes were seen flying over the city at a low altitude starting in the early morning and continuing throughout the day.
A complete power outage was observed in the city for six hours.
This morning, six munitioned shabiha from al-Hezb al-Qadeem headed toward al-Marabet Street. Other shabiha were spotted at the Adi Gas Station. Forces at al-A'laf checkpoint were asking passersby for their ID cards and searching some cars. A number of prisoners were freed from the Hama Central Prison.
On a near daily basis, shabiha are erecting a checkpoint near the Industrial Roundabout to search people and steal their belongings.
In the evening:
Gunfire was heard from checkpoints in al-Qusour neighborhood and sounds of clashes and explosions were heard from the western part of the city. Anti-regime demonstrations were held in multiple neighborhoods as well.
¤ Hama Countryside:
Eastern Hama Countryside:
A group of opposition fighting groups attacked a military envoy on Salamieh-Raqqa Road that left Sabboura toward Khanaser. The results of the battle:
1. Two cars of shabiha were destroyed
2. A shabih named Naseef Salameh, the head of the Air Force Intelligence in Salamieh, was killed
3. The supply route to the besieged areas was closed off
4. Adnan Ahmed al-Hussain of Ahfad al-Rasool was killed
The villages of the eastern suburbs were bombarded by warplanes and with artillery shells. Eyewitnesses reported the presence of a rocket launcher in Ethreyeh village, northeast of Salamieh.
Khattab:
Shabiha from the pro-regime village of Arzeh and regime forces raided the agricultural fields southeast of Khattab. They reached the southern outskirts of Khattab but did not arrest anyone.
Qal'at al-Madeeq:
A large portion of al-Zahraa Mosque was destroyed as a result of the arbitrary shelling of the town. The area was shelled by regime forces at the Tal Burhan and al-Nahl checkpoints in al-Sqailbeyeh.
Kafarzeita:
Artillery shelling of the city from Deir Mharde was reported, and it led to the partial destruction of some houses.
