26 March 2013
Headlines
Calm prevails on most fronts interrupted by a few skirmishes; artillery and rocket shelling causes more destruction; 2 martyrs and a number of injuries; humanitarian and medical situation utterly miserable
*** Recent developments***
This morning a convoy of 8 tanks, 4 BMP vehicles, 10 DShK vehicles and a number of troop-carriers moved towards the eastern entrance to the city coming from Al-Mazzeh Airport.
Meanwhile, most neighbourhoods were targeted with a fierce artillery and rocket shelling which was particularly intense in the western and southern areas, Aljamiaat area, and Liberty Square. The shelling spread sporadically throughout the day and left massive destruction in the city.
Regime forces continued with their operations to secure Al-Mazzeh Airport at the expense of people’s houses and property. Clouds of smoke covered the vicinity of the airport in the aftermath of bulldozing operations that targeted all types of construction in the areas between the airport and Daraya and Kafersouseh.
In the evening, all reinforcement forces retreated after being valiantly fought off by the FSA.
As for combat fronts, calm prevailed in most points interrupted only by mutual sniper operations.
Daraya bid farewell today to one of her unknown soldiers, a hero who spent all his time and possessions for the sake of his country’s dignity and honour.
Our fallen hero, Hamid Abu Yasser was one of the first few people who took to the streets demanding dignity and freedom for Syria. He was also extrajudicially arrested, and he worked in most revolutionary fields: relief, media medical as well as administrative. He died of his wounds caused by the shelling.
