23 March 2013
Headlines: Regime forces continue with their attempts to seize control of the city; FSA repels attacks and liberates a few buildings; five months of shelling, siege and destruction; One martyr and a number of injuries; Humanitarian and medical situation utterly miserable
*** Recent developments***
Regime forces continued with their attempts advance and seize control of Daraya for the 131st day. Early in the morning, military reinforcements including 6 tanks, 4 BMP vehicles, DShK vehicles and a number of troop-carriers moved towards the city. Clashes broke out around Liberty Square and Sukaina Shrine during which the FSA repelled the attacks and inflicted heavy casualties on regime forces. The FSA was also able to clear a few buildings along Municipality Street from infiltrating Assadist elements after successful combing operations.
The FSA targeted regime points on the outskirts of the city using mortars.
Most areas in the city were targeted with heavy artillery and tank shelling causing even more destruction and fires in residential buildings and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the displaced people of Daraya are still being subjected to harassment. Today, regime forces launched an indiscriminate arrest campaign against displaced people from Daraya in the neighbouring city of Suhnaya. More than 10 people were arrested including 5 members of the same family.
Daraya bid farewell to FSA fighter Mahmoud Abu Umar who died in action while defending his city. May God bless his soul.

*** Humanitarian situation***
The humanitarian situation for people staying in Daraya is extremely dreadful amid a total blackout and a complete lack in the necessities of life.
The situation for displaced people is also increasingly getting worse as their needs increase with time. Adding insult to injury are the indiscriminate arrests against them either in their gathering places or on checkpoints.
*** Medical Centre Report***
The medical team continues to provide all possible help to rescue and treat injured victims whether civilians or FSA fighters despite the extreme shortage in medical staff, equipment and material.
The field hospital received today 5 injured victims. The victims were rescued and given the necessary treatment and medication.
