18 Feb 2013
Headlines: 93 days of assault on Daraya and the FSA inflicts heavy losses on Assad’s forces; artillery and rocket shelling continues for the 98th day causing widespread destruction; more houses looted and demolished in the vicinity of Al-Mazzeh military airport; 2 fallen heroes and a number of civilians; horrible medical and humanitarian situation
*** Recent developments***
Regime forces continued today their attempts to seize control of the city for a consecutive 94th day in a row. Early in the morning, several military convoys entered the city via the Main Road, Al-Mazzeh airport barricade and Daraa Highway supported by tanks, armoured vehicles, DShK vehicles, Zil Trucks, troop carrying coaches as well as vehicles of ammunition.
Fierce battles were fought between the FSA and regime militias along several fronts especially in the vicinity of Sukaina Shrine.
FSA fighters inflicted dozens of casualties on Assad’s forces in a successful ambush.
Clashes also broke out around Liberty Square, Althawra Street (city centre), and Aljamiaat area (northwest). FSA fighters displayed outstanding bravery in holding on to their positions despite the fierceness of battles and the lack of qualitative arms.
The FSA resumed their combing operations in which they cleared several buildings from infiltrating Assadist elements.
Alongside the clashes, people and mosques chanted traditional Takbeer in order to spread tranquillity among freedom seekers and spread terror among the criminal attackers.
Bandits from Air Force Intelligence forces continued with their campaign to loot, bulldoze and raze homes in Alkhaleej area overlooking Al-Mazzeh airport in an attempt to secure the airport on the expense of people’s livelihood and homes.
Assad’s missiles and artillery have continued to hit the city for the third consecutive month. The intensity of the shelling varied continuously but shelling never stopped.
Shelling concentrated today on, Liberty Square, the vicinity of Sukaina Shrine, New and Old Maliya area, the vicinity of the Church, Aljamiaat area, Graveyard roundabout, and the western and southern areas.

*** Medical Situation***
The field hospital received today 9 victims including civilians injured by the barbaric shelling, as well as FSA fighters injured in action. Most of the cases were in medium to critical conditions. Amid a dire lack of medical supplies, the victims were rescued and given the necessary treatment and medication.
*** Humanitarian situation***
The humanitarian situation is increasingly getting worse for the people of Daraya, whether they are still inside or displaced outside the city, especially in the current freezing conditions.
Around 10,000 people have been under siege inside the city for over 3 months in complete power cut and total blocking of medical, fuel and food supplies.
More than 200,000 displaced people are still suffering the hard living conditions associated with displacement in several areas in Damascus and Damascus Countryside. Most of them suffer under the cold weather, lack of food, blankets and the basic necessities of life. Many of them live in uninhabitable places. The cold weather and lack of medical supplies causes the spread of winter diseases especially among children.
