Malek Jandali

Award-winning composer and pianist Malek Jandali started his piano studies at the Jugendmusikschule in Germany, and then continued at the Music Conservatory and the High Institute of Music in Damascus. He studied under Victor Bunin of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
 Active as a performer for many years, he decided to shift his attention to composition. Malek developed a special interest in near Eastern music and the ancient music of Syria. He began to integrate Arabic "maqams" or modes with Western harmonies in his music. This led to his current project, "Echoes from Ugarit", based on the music of Ugarit, the oldest musical notation in the world, dating back to 3400 B.C. He recorded the album with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra in Moscow.
In 2009, he signed a landmark record deal Virgin Megastores to distribute his album throughout the Middle East and his popularity skyrocketed after the debut of the video clip for the hit "Piano Dream". Mr. Jandali has performed in Beirut, Dubai, Cairo, Istanbul, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., The Harris Theater in Chicago, Stude Hall at Rice University in Houston, Palce des Arts in Montréal and a finale with the Ludwig Symphony Orchestra and Pacific Symphony Orchestra in the United States.A prolific composer, Malek has received critical acclaim in major newspapers throughout North America. Mr. Jandali has been heard frequently on National Public Radio (NPR), BBC, Radio France Musique and featured on Al Jazeera TV, Dubai TV. MBC and ART North America. His music is published by Soul b Music and can be found in Virgin Megastores, iTunes, eMusic, CD Baby and Amazon worldwide.
His music compositions embrace the great diversity of his international background and influences. Malek currently resides in Atlanta and is a member of The Recording Academy and The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). One of his most memorable performances was Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B Flat Minor.
